You will be given an impression that cash is accepted nowhere. It is easy to get an Auro card against a deposit of Rs 500 which can then be loaded at the financial services center.

However, if you are still hesitant about making the Auro Card, then there is no worry. The system is dwindling, and there are places where cash is still accepted.

Living in Auroville

Auroville mostly runs on contributions that are made by the newcomers and the residents. You need to have more than 15 lakhs rupees to start living in Auroville.

Once you are allowed to stay in Auroville, you will have to take part in activities and work towards the needs of the community.

Everyone should contribute to the collective Auroville welfare in terms of kind, work, or money. The productive units need to contribute a substantial amount to the township.

The affluent Aurovillian are expected to make regular donations towards the community or any of its projects.

Aurovillians do not get the money equivalent to the work that they do, and thus the community is responsible to provide for the persons’ daily needs.

The main idea of Auroville is to be a cashless economy, and thus everyone is supposed to contribute immensely. The Auroville’s are also asked to keep their financial assets inside Auroville.

Newcomers need to contribute to at least sustain their first year in Auroville.

Even after intensive efforts, there is still a long way to go for Auroville to be in a position to sustain the needs of every individual residing in this experimental township.
